About the Nordic Network for Queer History Archives and Activities
The aim of the Nordic Network for Queer History Archives and Activities (NNAQH) is to create a network of queer history archives and activities in the Nordic and Baltic countries, to promote the sharing of experience and knowledge and to explore opportunities for partnership, infrastructure solutions, and financial conditions. Moreover, the Nordic network for queer history archives and activities aims to strengthen existing queer history activities and archives in the Nordic and Baltic countries, through the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and inspiration. It wants to contribute to expanding collections, strategies for preservation, and dissemination of queer history in the region.
Queer history does not follow today's national borders; movements and people have in centuries crossed- and had significant exchange across the shifting borders. Concepts of sexuality have undergone changes in various ways in the past, and the network wants to examine similarities, differences, and transnational phenomena through a series of seminars and meetings.
The seminars will invite queer archives, researchers, cultural heritage professionals and artists from the Nordic and Baltic countries to share experience and knowledge, for development and for partnerships. The network will thereby challenge previous marginalising historiography in the Nordic and Baltic countries, broaden interest in queer history in the region, and contribute to a more inclusive view of history.
Archive activities in the various countries of the region are facing different societal, institutional, and economic conditions. Some strategies and methods are not directly transferable between the participants in the network. This challenge also means that we can share information and get new perspectives on our own practices and strategies.
The arranging hub of the Nordic Network for Queer History Archives and Activities consist of three partner organisations: The Archives and Library of the Queer Movement (Sweden), Friends of Queer History (Finland), and The Norwegian Queer Archive (Norway).
